Zusammenfassung

The journey into the interior life continues.Christian and Spiritual Letters - Volume II continues the first complete English translation of Madame Guyon's remarkable collection from the original French edition of 1717.Following the 240 letters presented in Volume I, this second volume brings together 200 additional letters, making 440 letters available in English across the first two volumes of this ongoing translation project.Written as personal spiritual counsel, these letters lead the reader further into some of the central themes of Madame Guyon's thought: interior prayer, pure faith, abandonment to Divine Providence, detachment from self, suffering and the Cross, the action of divine grace, pure love, and the soul's progressive surrender to God.Their epistolary character gives the collection a particular immediacy. Guyon is not writing an abstract spiritual treatise: she is responding to real persons, addressing their difficulties, uncertainties, progress, and different stages of the interior life. Her counsel therefore moves continually between spiritual experience and practical guidance. This edition preserves the numbering, structure, and distinctive spiritual vocabulary of the 1717 French original as closely as possible while presenting the text in clear and readable English.Volume II contains Letters I-CC (1-200) of the second volume of the original collection and continues the publication of Madame Guyon's complete Christian and Spiritual Letters for English-speaking readers.
