Katrina McKelvey is an Australian children's author and former primary school teacher who lives in Newcastle, New South Wales, with her family and a cocker spaniel. A stay-at-home mum when her two children were young, she began writing for children while witnessing - and treasuring - their earliest milestones and has been writing ever since. Her picture books include Dandelions, Up To Something and Isla's Family Tree, and the tender companion to this story, My Heart, all published by EK Books, alongside many titles with other publishers. In My Arms was inspired by her own husband: she drew on the messages he had written to their son in birthday and special-occasion cards over the years, returning to him for advice on just the right words as she wrote. Katrina is highly involved in the children's books community, including the CBCA and SCBWI, and loves speaking at festivals, conferences and school visits. She is left-handed, loves tea, scary movies and rollercoasters, and is happily addicted to mint chocolate.
