'¿Ne bis in idem¿ and the Principles of International Law': ¿Ne bis in idem¿ (or the prohibition of double jeopardy) is a core element of various international legal systems. It operates on three levels: as a protective norm of international human rights, as a regulator of competing criminal jurisdictions, and as a procedural guarantee in international criminal law. Based on the normative understandings of the principles of law theory, these very different manifestations are analyzed and possible trends in the development of law are identified.
