Narratives about the patriarch Abraham, written during the first millennium BCE, may be counted as the most influential epic of the pre-Christian and pre-Islamic Near East. In our days this epic frequently seems to be a cause of religious strife and warfare. Three thousand years ago it was a source for cultural and religious reform. It helped moderate slavery and abolish cultic human sacrifice. Emphasizing today its "peace" function once again, seems worth singing about.
"Peace of Abraham" is a musical narrative, an epic for soloists, choir and organ accompaniment. Karl W. Luckert is a professor emeritus in the history of religions. Jonas Nordwall, author of the organ accompaniments, is a celebrated concert organist with appearances in North America, Europe, Japan and China. He has done no less than ten concert tours in Australia.
