Learning one's spelling words and participating in spelling bees are a nationwide ordeal for every American kid. At the school, the finals are down to three kids: "The Slugger," Cornelius "The Genius" and Ruby. The narrator, "The Slugger", uses baseball imagery and metaphor to tell the tale of who wins and how the other contenders strike out.
Round after round during a spelling bee, the words whizz at students, but with one minute left until recess, there's still no winner. Who will triumph? It all comes down to one final word, and a curveball that no one sees coming! Includes three spelling lists. Full color.
